Vortex Flow Meters

Vortex flow meters measure the volumetric flow rate of liquids, gases, or steam by detecting vortices that form as the fluid passes a bluff body (an obstruction) in the flow path. The frequency at which these vortices are shed is directly proportional to the fluid’s velocity, and sensors in the meter convert this into a flow signal. Because they have no moving parts, vortex meters are durable, relatively low-maintenance, and suitable for a wide range of applications, including steam and compressed air systems. They provide good accuracy and reliability across medium to high flow ranges, but their performance can suffer at very low flow rates or when fluid conditions are unstable. Their robustness and versatility make vortex meters a popular choice for industrial process measurement where simplicity and long-term durability are important.
